WHY ACTIVE SOLAR ENERGY ?

An active solar energy system is more efficient than a passive one.Active solar system is different from Passive system in that the passive system is stationary and do not actively follow the sun.While in an active solar energy system mechanical equipment is used to harness,collect, and convert the sun’s heat.The generated energy from the sun is generated can be used directly or stored for later use.Let’s look at the pros of an active solar system;

  • You don’t have to derive power from sources other than the sun,because active energy system utilizes the power of external devices.
  • An active solar system releases no carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
  • An active solar system works also in poor weather conditions.
  • An active solar system generates no noise

There are two main types of Active solar technologies which are generally used in Building’s Architecture.
PHOTOVOLTAIC used for:
Generating Electricity
Space heating
Appliances
SOLAR THERMAL used for:
Producing Domestic Hot Water (DHW)
Indirect Space heating
– Lighting

Active solar technologies  can greatly reduce the use of fossil fuels for home energy needs. In all renewable energy resources, only the sun can meet all the building’s energy demand and reduce our exposure to global warming impacts. The main advantages of solar energy are that it is ,frequently available, clean and able to operate independently or in conjunction with traditional energy sources. Solar energy, in its active form, is able to deliver the entire set of building energy needs.
